FS2004 Republic XP-47H by Milton Shupe, Tom Falley, Steve Bryant, Scott Thomas, and Nigel Richards; Pilot figures by Jan Visser.

This package is designed to work in FS9. It has also been tested in FSX/ACCEL/SP2 with the included texture modifications.

The Aircraft
Although the P-47D was the high point of the Thunderbolt's career in terms of quantity and use, there were further attempts to refine the type.

Two "XP-47Hs" were built. They were major reworkings of existing razorback P-47D to accommodate a Chrysler XI-2220-11 water-cooled inline 16-cylinder inverted vee engine. Really big inline engines didn't prove to be a good idea in general, and the XP-47H went nowhere.

The Engine
The Chrysler XIV-2220 (XI-2220 from 1944) was an experimental 2,500 hp liquid-cooled inverted-V-16 aircraft engine designed by Chrysler starting in 1940. Although several aircraft designs had considered using it, by the time it was ready for use in 1945 the war was already over.

Thanks to Tom Falley, Nigel Richards, and Steve Bryant for all their efforts to evolve this project, and to all the SOH members who supported the effort along the way. Thanks to Jan Visser for use of the pilot figure.

A special thanks to Steve "Duckie" Bryant for his great talents and energy to get things right, to do new things like VC interior textures, gauge bitmaps and panel textures, and bring confidence and completeness to the XP-47H project.
